What To Wear For Thanksgiving
Words by: Caitlin Eckley. Design by: Melanie Makariou
In the UK, the November mood is a straight-up sprint to Christmas, but we know our friends across the pond have Thanksgiving to look forward to in between. So, in signature ultra-polite British style, we've put together an outfit guide to help you prepare. Not everyone’s Thanksgiving plans look the same, but the general consensus is food (a lot of it), family + friends. No matter how you’re spending the vacation, our edit includes outfit ideas that cater for every scenario, whether your day involves getting stuck in with the cooking and prep, or a distinctly drink-in-hand, relax + unwind approach (we hope you’re enjoying the latter).
Cozy Travel Style
Whether you’re traveling via long-haul flight or a cross-country carpool, start the day off right with this season’s tactile knits or our softly structured Travel Tailoring separates that deliver both polish and comfort - because the best looks don’t need a dress code, just good company and great pie.
Finding the perfect balance between relaxed and refined, our Travel Jacket is made from ponte-jersey tailoring fabric that holds its shape no matter how long the journey, or the dinner table debate. The drawstring tie at the hem allows for a more slouchy finish. Choose either the coordinating Barrel-Leg or Wide-Leg Pant to build a cohesive head-to-toe look.
Traveling in knitwear is ideal to combat the unpredictable in-flight AC, so opt for a contemporary co-ord with our Crop Sweater and Triangle Scarf. Or, look to our textured stitch pattern, which is incorporated across a selection of knitted pieces this season. If you’re preparing for a drop in temperature on arrival, then cozy accessories are your best plus one (or carry on). Our Textured Stitch Beanie and Scarf can be worn with the matching Textured Vest + Snood, Sweater or Skirt for a graphic finish that locks in warmth.
Hosting At Home
If you’re the host for the day, you’ve got enough on your plate, literally, so choose an outfit that delivers on all fronts: looks put-together and feels comfortable. That way, you can at least look effortless while you’re juggling the turkey and the timeline.
Our modern style solution for hosting is the AM-PM co-ord. This season's hero set is made from jacquard jersey that has a textured, tweed-like finish and subtle metallic threading for a lifted edge. Mix and match the Wide-Leg Pant with the Zip-Front Top or Swing Top to achieve a custom look. If an all-in-one style is more your speed, our Button A-Line Dress unites a figure-skimming fabric with a button-down front for a contemporary finish.
For a style that’s accommodated to kitchen commander or sous chef alike, opt for the classic look and practical ease of a buttoned shirt. Our Statement Blouse is designed with shirred cuffs to keep pushed-up sleeves in place, so your already busy hands don’t have to contend with impractical cuffs.
Feast-Friendly Waistband
When it’s time to sit down and eat, don’t let constricting, uncomfortable pants stand in the way of indulging. Consider it a Thanksgiving-themed approach to intelligent style: dressing for the second helping.
Polished enough for the table, comfortable enough for the couch, our Evening Palazzo Pant unites the relaxed style of our original pair with an elevated note, crafted from a blend of extrafine merino wool and silk for a soft, slinky finish, making it the ideal counterpart to our blouses.
Uniting the comfort of loungewear with the appeal of eveningwear, our Fluid Velour Track Pant is ideal for balancing comfort and a dressed-up edge. This pair is made from ultra-soft velour with a self-tie waistband and relaxed legs.
Country Codes
Bring a bit of British heritage to the Thanksgiving table with our selection of knitted staples that put a contemporary spin on countryside codes, from argyle and Fair Isle patterns to luxuriously tactile fabric blends.
Create the ultimate balance of soft and structured with our Argyle Knit Vest and Slit Full-Length Skirt. The sweater vest is crafted from a chunky blend of responsibly sourced merino wool, alpaca and responsibly sourced mohair, and is cut to a sleeveless silhouette for bulk-free layering.
Opt for a pop of color with our Straight Knit Tee. Instantly making an over-the-table statement, the cloud-like cashmere is brushed for an even softer, fluffier finish, and the cropped length hits the perfect place to line up seamlessly with your pick of high waistlines (preferably elasticated).
Friendsgiving
If you’re being hosted by friends, look to the easy yet elevated look of our velour pieces, where softness meets contemporary details. With your outfit effortlessly planned, you can direct your time and energy to picking out the perfect host gift.
Ultra-soft velour pieces combine the softness of jersey with the distinct AM-PM look and feel of velvet. Our AM-PM Fluid Tee features short pouf sleeves for naturally flattering volume, whilst our long-sleeved AM-PM Ruched Top is designed with an effortless wrap front for a cinched-in finish.
For head-to-toe color that has a suitably festive feel to match the season, look to our Deep Ruby Red pieces. Our Sleeveless Top falls to a loose-fitting drape for comfort, and is equipped with a matching scarf for an elevated finish. Or opt for a pop of Jewel Blue with our Sheer Sleeve Blouse.
After Dinner Wind Down
The food is finished, and now it’s time to wind down and relax (at least before it’s leftovers time). By this time in the day, the energy has slowed down, and so have your movements. The perfect partner to an afternoon and evening relaxing and slowly digesting is a warm + cozy sweater.
For something soft and just the right amount of festive, look to a tactile piece like our Fair Isle Knit + Snood that’s knitted from an alpaca and merino wool blend yarn, or choose a modern color-pop style in our Relaxed Raglan Sweater or the Sunday Sweater + Snood in True Scarlet Red.
