REDEFINING HERITAGE
How We Balance Timeless + Modern
Words by: Isla Philo. Design by: Melanie Makariou
Heritage style may be trending for this season, but for us, a subtle dose of countryside dressing doubles as an homage to our British roots. It’s less about a flat cap in a mud-spattered field; instead, it’s more about taking timeless textures and tailoring, and reimagining these countryside classics to give them a sharp modern edge.

Traditional Knits
History-steeped Argyle and Fair Isle Scottish knitting patterns, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, come in a luxurious range of fibers, from tactile mohair to classic wool. All delivered in intelligent color palettes that effortlessly pair back to other separates throughout the collection. To keep things ultra-practical, we've incorporated intelligent details like detachable snoods, zipped necklines, and chunky ribbed trims to help the pieces maintain their shape.

Houndstooth
It doesn't get much more heritage-coded than houndstooth, which can be traced back to the Bronze Age. The modern idea of houndstooth as we know and love it - a distinctive two-tone weave and jagged appearance - is believed to originate from woven tweed cloth from the Scottish Lowlands and has since become an enduring signature of tailoring and outerwear.
We're taking this pattern and directing it through an unapologetically bold lens in this season's outerwear options. The aptly named Statement Coat features an enlarged houndstooth weave in a weighty wool-blend coating fabric, wide sleeves, and a short hem that works with all manner of pant waistlines. While styles such as the Heritage Overcoat embrace a more traditional tailoring-inspired spin with a long fit and neutral colours throughout the woven pattern.

Modern Shapes
Our signature Military Jacket returns this season in new colors + fabrics that nod at heritage codes. The single-breasted silhouette features the usual quartet of buttoned pockets, and comes in a choice of a neat collared neckline or tailoring-leaning notch lapels. Choose a classic, textured wool-blend weave that has a warm, outerwear-ready edge, or opt for the luxurious look and feel of Italian velvet.

Classic Cord
It wouldn’t be right to mention heritage style without discussing cord. The fabric was developed and popularized in Britain during the 18th century, where it was favored for workwear due to its warmth, durability and easy-wearing qualities. Three principles that carry over into our collections today, where we spotlight the soft, tactile fabric as the ultimate day-to-night-to-weekend solution.
For fall/winter it’s cord pants that are the true hero. Velvet cord styles like our Palazzo Pant offer all the comfort of a stretch jersey pant with a more lifted edge thanks to the considered Italian fabric. Or, for a look that's a bit dressier than denim, yet still feels relaxed, consider styles like the Engineered Pants or the Tapered Puddle Pant in washed cord.

Chunky Yarn
There’s always room for more knitwear, especially if it's intelligently designed to layer perfectly with outerwear. From earthy neutrals to deep reds and greens, minimal stitch patterns to cosy bouclé, there’s a warm solution to be found in luxe fibers of merino, cashmere + alpaca.
We’re utilising cleverly placed seam detailing to create soft structure throughout this season’s sweaters + cardigans. Ribbed or raised raglan shoulder seams create a soft, rounded shoulder and the perfect slouchy look, while saddle seams across the back deliver just the right amount of clean-lined structure to the overall fit.

Heritage Patterns
While heritage patterns such as tartan, checks, stripes + herringbone all have a functional history - the use of natural fibers and weaving techniques made them warm + durable outdoor choices - they also double up as an instant dose of countryside inspiration for your wardrobe.
The key to making sure heritage patterns retain a modern feel, is opting for contemporary silhouettes like our Navy + Bordeaux striped barrel-leg pant or a skirt with an unexpected twist, like the front slits hidden in the pleats of this Italian wool style. Smart tailored shapes such as our Sharp Shoulder Blazer in a warm Toffee hue are ideal for building a masculine-feminine look. The Italian wool-blend tailoring fabric has a classic brushed look and feel, while the addition of viscose provides added fluidity for ease.

Accessories
From Italian-made leather footwear + bags, to plush shearling pieces handmade in East London, every accessory is the product of master craftsmanship honed by years of experience.
