As experts in tailoring, we believe that a great suit is an essential investment in every woman’s wardrobe. We see suits as so much more than just the ‘smart option’. They’re the two (or three) piece solution to an instantly put-together look, while also delivering the individual components to build endless outfits for seasons to come.
Whether you’re a tailoring obsessive like us or you’re just starting to explore the precisely cut world of suiting, we’ve got the solutions for how to style a suit, including the perfect pairings to layer beneath.
GO TRADITIONAL
If in doubt, stick to traditional suiting codes like pinstripes or heritage fabrics. Classic patterns and neutral colours ensure you’re making a timeless choice and getting a return on your sartorial investment. This season, we’ve united traditional with contemporary in our tailoring options. Our signature jacket shape - The Sharp Shoulder Blazer - is back in a new colour and pattern, but the same reliably flattering cut, and we’ve reimagined our universally flattering military jacket in tactile tweed.

Proving three pieces isn’t a crowd, this pinstriped suit set includes a tailored waistcoat, the Sharp Shoulder Blazer and the Tapered Trouser. We’ve opted for a classic wool-blend tailoring fabric that has a subtle brushed surface and includes viscose fibres for extra fluidity. The Olive colour and light pinstripes allow for easy styling and add a transeasonal versatility.

The ultimate symbol of traditional meets contemporary: The Heritage Military Jacket. One of our failsafe silhouettes is back this season in a new earthy colour and luxurious Italian wool-blend twill. The same clean-cut, ultra-flattering shape is achieved by structured shoulders and wide lapels that balance out the top half of the bodice while sculpting seams and buttoned flap pockets create a softened overall hourglass.
A MODERN TWIST
A commitment to great tailoring doesn’t mean developing a single style and calling it a day. It means continually innovating. Enter The Ultra-Fluid Suit.

Smart enough for the office, while still feeling fresh and modern to create a polished weekend or occasion look. The single-breasted longline jacket has padded, slightly exaggerated shoulders to complement the straight fit, and the tie belt gives the choice of adding a cinched-in waist or swapping in a different belt style thanks to the integrated loops. Because we’ve chosen an Italian suiting fabric that contains wool and viscose, it’s fluid enough that the soft folds that come with belting it don’t create excess bulk. Wide black side inserts give a graphic edge to the matching trousers, which are cut to a slouchy straight-leg fit equipped with an elasticated pull-on waistband.

PERFECT UNDER-SUIT PAIRINGS
There’s no hard and fast rule on what you should wear under a suit. In fact, mixing up your under-suit layers is the easiest way to continuously refresh your tailoring investments, and create a look that feels authentically you.

Whether you want to go full traditional by opting for shirting like our Relaxed Tux style or a more feminine look in the form of a fluid silk blouse, all our under-suit layers are designed with special considerations, like longer cuffs or minimal necklines, so they fit neatly under tailored jackets. If you want the casual look of a T-shirt with a textured edge, then try one of our shrunken baby tees in cashmere or a merino blend. Lightweight, slim-fitting and the ideal soft complement under sharp tailoring.
MIX IT UP
Whether you’re just starting out in the world of suiting or you’re an aficionado, one of the best ways to keep your styling fresh is to create shape + texture clashes by mixing the smart lines of tailoring with softer pieces.

If you’re unsure what goes with what, start simply by keeping it tonal. This season we’ve got a selection of colour-matched separates that come in different textures + cuts, so you can mix and match to create a unique look. Our Textured Trousers come in a high-waist culotte or a wide-leg fit, both made from a soft and surprisingly stretchy fabric that has the look of classic tailoring but the feel of soft jersey. Either style pairs effortlessly with our Milano Knit Waistcoat or The Zip Front Contoured Layering Jacket to create a smart look without the commitment of a full suit.
DRESS IT DOWN
Just like adding a blazer can add instant polish to any look, mixing your tailoring with denim can give the desired ‘dress down’ effect, so you can wear your favourite blazer to even the most casual occasions.

Maintaining balanced proportions is key when it comes to mixing tailoring and denim. So if you like an oversized jacket like our Intelligent Oversized Blazer, and you love the look of a baggy jean, then keep the in-between layer more form-fitting, whether it’s a Tailored Waistcoat or a slim-fitting tank or tee.
If you prefer a more sculpted jacket like the Sharp Shoulder Blazer, then it’s the perfect chance to choose a more statement trouser like the wide A-line shape of our Culotte Jean.
