This summer, black is back
Black has slowly and subtly been acquiring more and more fashion column inches as the summer progresses. A somewhat incongruous choice for the sunshine yet quietly cool, black has become this season’s hero hue.
Writing in her Times column, Fashion Director Anna Murphy addresses the matter of wearing black without veering into boring territory:
“For me it’s all about interest-adding texture and detail”
“For example ME+EM’s lace co-ords, its shorts interchangeable with a frilly maxi skirt if you feel the world doesn’t need to get acquainted with your knees any time soon.”
With texture and detail the key, look for broderie trims, sheer fabrics and contemporary silhouettes to hit the mark this season.
With the added benefit of looking perfectly in place come autumn, black is a delightfully satisfying investment for now and later.
